The Thadou Community International (TCI) on Tuesday presented an overview of their peace initiatives addressing the ongoing Manipur crisis to the India’s High Commission Office, London, and submitted a memorandum addressed to the PM Modi, highlighting the plight of the Thadou people due to the ethnic conflict in Manipur.
It mentioned that the focal point was on TCI’s efforts to promote peace, harmony, and reconciliation in Manipur, stated a release.
TCI apprised the High Commissioner of India on Thadou tribe’s distinct pre-colonial identity, cultural and historical heritage. Human rights concerns and social injustices faced by the Thadou community in the current Manipur crisis were also emphasised, it stated.
It mentioned that the Thadou people have been subdued and marginalized since long and they have been the most affected victims but silenced in this current conflict.
It stressed that prolonged violence will only widen the rift and eventually affect the younger generations for decades to come.
“We are of the firm belief that although misunderstandings have led to violence, mutual respect and understanding through dialogues will subsequently bring lasting peace and harmony as all the communities have to live together. We trust we can stand together for peace, justice and mutual co-existence and it will be a significant step towards collaborative efforts for finding solutions for the Manipur crisis,” it stated.
TCI remains committed to promoting peace, non-violence, justice, and human rights, it mentioned. “We believe that collective action and inclusive dialogue are essential for resolving the complex issues underlying the conflict,” it added.
