The Manipur Taxation department conducted raids in warehouses at Churachandpur and checked e-way bills at National Highway number 39 to check the illegal holding of goods related to distribution for the ensuing state assembly election.
A release stated that the Taxation department conducted the raid at four places at Churachandpur district on Wednesday to check the illegal hoarding of goods and freebies related to distribution for the ensuing State Legislative Assembly Election. In the raid, grocery items and beverage items of which stock value amounted to Rs 10,33,93,602 were found, it added.
The department has taken the necessary action to verify the documents and records, and “served notices to all the dealers under the Manipur Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017 and the rules made thereunder”, it mentioned.
In the occasion, the flying squad team of the department also checked vehicular movement on National Highway 39, at which 27 vehicles were checked and Rs 31,27,529 was verified from E-way bills and other documents, the release continued.
“The department has been continuously conducting raids of warehouses and checked movement of goods carrying vehicles on the National Highways to ensure free and fair General Election to the State Legislative Assembly of Manipur, 2022”, it stated.
