The Tousem Area Students’ Organisation (TASO), through the deputy commissioner, Tamenglong, has written to Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh expressing concerns about security and the immediate need for permanent police outpost at Tatbung village under Tousem subdivision, Tamenglong district.

In a letter to the chief minister, Nehemiah Zeme, president of TASO, wrote, “It is pertinent to note that Tousem Sub Division under Tamenglong district shares borders with Assam and Nagaland on its west and north. The security force is indispensable to safeguard and ensure a sense of normalcy for the people”.

However, people have a sense of foreboding when they are denied protection from the security force, he wrote, further stating that it is “likely to increase the breakdown of law-and-order mechanisms, especially in the southern region of Tousem Sub Division, if the Manipur government fails to set up a police outpost at Tatbung village immediately”.

TASO also stated that it is a matter of grave concern and questioned why the Tousem Sub-Division SDPO post has been laid vacant again and again for several times despite repeated petitions to the concerned government officials. The people feel more alienated when the Government shows unconcern and insensitivity towards our genuine demand, they added.

“We call on your concerned authority to look into this matter seriously with prompt action within this month, failing which we will not be responsible for any uncertain incident in the near future,” TASO stated.
