Farmers were encouraged to plant more high quality oranges during the second day of the Tamenglong Orange Festival 2022 held in Tamenglong district HQ, Manipur.
"Stop planting oranges only to participate in the Tamenglong Orange Festival. Plant high quality oranges," MLA Janghemlung Panmei said and appreciated the orange growers in the district.
Panmei was speaking at the one-day seminar held under the theme ‘Tamenglong orange for sustainable livelihoods’, which was organised as a part of the festival.
The seminar was organised by the district officer Horticulture and soil conservation in collaboration with district administration Tamenglong at Indoor Stadium Tamenglong.
Panmei expressed hope that the production next year would increase with good quality, and distributed vegetables seeds and other items to selected farmers.
In the technical session Iroisemba, Central Agricultural University, Imphal, department of Entomology, College of Agriculture professor Kh Ibohal Singh, ICAR, KVK Tamenglong subject matter specialist, Horticulture RK Roshan, Iroisemba, Central Agricultural University, Imphal department of Horticulture, College of Agriculture assistant professor Dr S Romen Singh, department of Horticulture and Soil Conservation, Government of Manipur officer In-charge, Plant Health Clinic Roshan Dangmei spoke as resource persons at the seminar.
On the occasion, district officer Horticulture and soil conservation Tamenglong Chungong Pamei and urged all to come forward for any help related to horticulture. He said that Tamenglong oranges have been GI tagged last year. After tagging GI, the demand for oranges outside the state have increased.
He requested all to extend full support and cooperation to work and serve better. He also asked all the participants to learn from experts and produce more oranges in the future.
A cycling event organised by the Manipur Adventure and Mountain Biking Association also marked the second day of the state-level Tamenglong Orange Festival in Tamenglong HQ.
Panmei, chief guest of the function, launched the event in the presence of district deputy commissioner Pawan Yadav and dignitaries.
Additional magistrate Tamenglong Thangboi Gangte and district officer Horticulture and soil conservation Tamenglong Chungong Pamei attended as guest of honour and president of the function respectively in the inaugural programme.
In the evening session, live music performances thrilled the audiences.
