Manipur High Court Chief Justice PV Sanjay Kumar on Saturday said that the construction of the Tamenglong district court complex and judges' quarters will be fully functional by December 2022 or January 2023.
The Chief Justice made the statement during his inspection of the newly inaugurated session court complex at Khoupilong in Tamenglong HQ.
Kumar was accompanied by commissioner (Law) A Nungsitombi; registrar general Gaiphulshiliu Golmei; Justice A Bimol; District and sessions judge Tamenglong N Rajnikanta Singh; registrar (judicial) Y Rother; joint registrar Subham Vashist; Court Manager Thouman luckyson Maring. Deputy commissioner Tamenglong Pawan Yadav; SDO Tamenglong Imosana; additional SP Tamenglong Paukhanmung Guite also joined the inspection from Tamenglong district.
During his inspection, Kumar witnessed slow progress of works. He, however, said that the government is trying to complete it as soon as possible and the court will be fulfilling its function in Tamenglong by December or January next year.
It may be mentioned that the poor sections of the district reportedly have to travel long distance abd bad road condition to the state capital, spending exorbitant fees for attending even small court cases.
During his short stay in Tamenglong, the Chief Justice visited the present court complex in Tamenglong where he was greeted by session court Tamenglong and Bar Association.
Tamenglong Bar Association president advocate AG Chingkhiugong urged the chief justice to complete the construction of district court building and post sufficient staffing in the district court Tamenglong.
The construction of district court building Tamenglong was started on May 1, 2016 and the stipulated date for completion of the project was April 1, 2018.
The approved project cost was Rs 4588.68 lakh in total. Of the total, Rs 4129.81 lakh was shared by the Centre while Rs 456.87 lakh was shared by the state government, and the total amount released for construction was Rs 1786.78 lakh.
