On the occasion of ‘Ujjwal Bharat’, ‘Ujjwal Bhawishya’ under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav Power @2047, Tamenglong district observed Bijli Mahotsav and Ujala Diwas, but there was no power in the district as the 33kv HT line from Reangpang to Tamenglong tripped due to a landslide which occurred on Wednesday night.
The celebration is organised by the Union Ministry of Power and New and Renewable Energy Ministry in association with the government of Manipur.
Deputy commissioner Tamenglong Pawan Yadav, sub-divisional officer, Tamenglong Paul Nangsha, and chairman Machunlong Ward No VI KC Paul attended the event organised in the district headquarter as the chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.

On the occasion, deputy commissioner Tamenglong said that power connectivity in Tamenglong is improving and at the same time, the department needs to focus on the number of hours during which the electricity is to be given.
Construction of the Power Sub-Station in Tamenglong is in progress but works have been delayed for some time due to land issues, he said. The power supply in Tamenglong district will be improved as soon as the Power Sub-Station becomes functional, he added.
He also requested the people of Tamenglong to give cooperation and thanked SELCO Foundation for providing the Solar Power System at District Hospital Tamenglong. The District Hospital now has sufficient power, he said.
KC Paul shared the testimony of the Electrification schemes. He also thanked the Electricity department for tirelessly working to provide regular power to the district.
As a part of the programme, short films on Universal Household Electrification, Village Electrification, Distribution System strengthening, Capacity Addition, Renewable Energy and film on Consumer Rights, film on State Achievement, Nukkad Natak and cultural performances were showcased.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the event, deputy general manager, Tamenglong Division, MSPDCL Lourembam Momocha Singh said that there are nine villages which are yet to get electricity so far and the department is working on it to electrify those villages this year.
He also mentioned that MSPDCL will install prepaid metering systems to all the villages of Tamenglong, including District Headquarters. He requested the villagers to give full cooperation in installing a prepaid metering system.
Meanwhile, concerning the power outage due to the landslide, the Electricity department informed that the electric poles had fallen in three locations and rectification work is in progress.
