Talks on to restore peace: Manipur CM

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has no knowledge of PM Modi’s visit.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Wednesday said that talks between the communities involved in the ongoing Manipur crisis have begun in order to restore peace under the supervision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

CM Biren was speaking to the media at the office of BJP Manipur Pradesh, Imphal on Wednesday after a BJP party executive meeting was held at the state party office. The meeting was participated by Union minister Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal; BJP northeast region in-charge, Sambit Patra, Manipur’s cabinet ministers and MLAs.

The union Law and Justice minister arrived Imphal on Wednesday at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport, Imphal.

He said under the supervision of PM Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the Manipur government is continuing its efforts to bring back peace in the state.

Talks between the two communities (Kuki and Meitei who are directly involved in the ongoing Manipur crisis) have already started, the CM said, adding that peace has started returning in the state.

CM Biren further said the meeting also discussed taking necessary steps in connection with the recent flood that occurred in Manipur.

The meeting also discussed monitoring the issues of relief camps established for the displaced people affected due to the Manipur crisis. A committee headed by Manipur’s cabinet minister K Govindas has already established however, to monitor more effectively a sub-committee has also been formed during the meeting, CM Biren said.

When the media tried to get comments from the Union minister, Law and Justice regarding the law and order situation of Manipur, he refused to give any comment.

It is said that the Arjun Ram Meghwal might stay in Manipur for two days.

Responding to the media as to when PM Modi would be visiting Manipur, the CM said, “BJP Manipur in-charge might have discussed at central level but for us we have to try to solve the issue by ourselves together”.
