Suspected IED blast at Senapati CMO office

A suspected IED exploded at the office of chief medical officer (CMO), Senapati around 9 pm Friday, suspected to be the work of some unknown miscreants. There were no reports of any injury or casualty.

The office of CMO, Senapati, Psokreho Psoze is located at the southern side of Senapati police station about a distance of 700 metres from it.

Police reported that the exploded bomb might be an improvised explosive device. The CMO office is made with galvanised zinc and wooden wall. Some furniture and the wooden wall were damaged.

In connection with the incident a case has been registered at Senapati police station for further investigation.

Meanwhile, Health Minister S Ranjan, during the observation of International Day of Older Person, 2022 at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Imphal East on Saturday said such uncivilised acts should be prevented. He said attacking healthcare is an act of uncivilised behaviour.

"Those miscreants who attacked the CMO office might need medical assistance at any moment. If no such healthcare facility is available in the area, then where will they go for treatment," he questioned.

He appealed to the miscreants not to repeat such incidents, stating that doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers are discharging their duty for the welfare of the society.

Ranjan said the health director has visited the blast site and it is fortunate that no causality was reported.
