Sushri Anusuiya Uikey was on Sunday appointed as new Governor of Manipur, succeeding La Ganesan, who is now appointed new Governor of Nagaland by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu.
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh took to Twitter and extended best wishes to both the governors. He also expressed confidence that Manipur will see "great progress" under Uikey's leadership.
"A hearty welcome to Sushri Anusuiya Uikey Ji on being appointed as the new Governor of Manipur. I am confident that the people of Manipur will see great progress under your leadership. Also, I extend best wishes to Shri La Ganesan Ji on his new post as Governor of Nagaland," Biren tweeted.
Sushri Anusuiya Uikey, hailing from Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh, was 6th governor of Chhattisgarh prior to becoming the 18th governor of Manipur, from July 16, 2019 to February 12, 2022.
Other new appointments in Northeast India included Lt Gen Kaiwalya Triviktam Parnaik as governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Lakshman Prasad Acharya as governor of Sikkim, Gulab Chand Kataria as governor of Assam and Phagu Chauhan as the new governor of Meghalaya.
Chauhan is a six-time MLA from Uttar Pradesh. He was an active politician before becoming the governor.
The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Brigadier Dr BD Mishra (Retd), who held the additional charge of Meghalaya, has been appointed as the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh.
The appointments will take effect from the dates they assume charge of their respective offices, a press note by the President of India stated on Sunday.
