Sugnu Firing: Wreath laying ceremony of commando Kiran held

The 1st Manipur Rifles paid gun salutes which was followed by floral tribute to the mortal remains of commando Thokchom Kiran Singh.

The wreath laying ceremony of commando Thokchom Kiran Singh, who succumbed to bullet injury following the Sugnu shootout, was held at the Manipur Police Memorial, 1st Manipur Rifles on Monday evening.

Kiran was wounded during a gun battle between suspected Kuki militants under SoO and commando personnel at Sugnu under Kakching district on Sunday. He succumbed to his injuries on the way to a hospital.

Thokchom Kiran Singh, 47, son of Th Shyamkisore Singh from Wangjing Heitupokpi was the team commander of Golf 57, Commando, Thoubal district.

Police reported that he had rescued some civilians who were stuck during the gunfight before he was shot.

As a part of the ceremony, the 1st Manipur Rifles paid gun salutes which was followed by floral tribute to the mortal remains of Kiran.

CM Biren Singh, cabinet ministers including K Govindas, L Susindro and high-ranking officers from Manipur police, CRPF and BSF attended including DGP, Manipur Police, P Doungel.

Later the mortal remains was carried to his birth place for last rites.
