In a bid to alleviate examination stress among students, Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) former chairperson S Saratkumar stressed the importance of consistent preparation throughout the academic session, coupled with ample recreational activities and adequate rest.

Addressing a gathering of students on the topic “Exams stress among children” during the celebration of “Pariksha Prav 6.0” on Thursday at Royal Academy of Law (RAL) in Bishnupur district, he emphasised that a balanced approach, incorporating study and leisure, is key to mitigating stress and enhancing academic performance.

During the interactive session, students expressed concerns about coping mechanisms for examination stress.

Sharatkumar, who was also the director of Social Welfare, reiterated the significance of incorporating periods of recreation and rest into study routines, highlighting the enhanced effectiveness of learning following periods of relaxation.

Furthermore, he highlighted the positive impact of technology, particularly internet access via mobile phones, in facilitating on-demand learning and addressing doubts promptly and encouraged students to leverage these tools responsibly to alleviate academic pressure.
In his address during the inaugural function, MCPCR chairperson Keisham Pradipkumar delved into the psychological aspects of examination stress, emphasising that it stems from perceived threats rather than tangible risks.

He advocated for mindfulness practices such as meditation and yoga, alongside adequate rest and abstinence from intoxicant substances known to induce stress hormones.

Pradipkumar also shed light on reforms introduced under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, including the implementation of a comprehensive continuous evaluation system and supplementary examinations.

These measures aim to familiarise students with examination processes and provide avenues for improvement, he stated.

The event, organised by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights in collaboration with the MCPCR also witnessed the participation of SDO/BDO Nambol Tongbram Shyamkumar, RAL governing body secretary Irengbam Jugeshwar and RAL principal Eliza Maisnam, alongside students from various schools across Bishnupur district.
