Stop disposing solid waste to drains, prevent flash floods: Y Khemchand

Khemchand said one of the most important factors for blockage of drains is due to disposal of solid waste on the drains and suggested that people should stop disposing of solid waste to drains immediately.

MAHUD Minister Yumnam Khemchand on Tuesday said drains are not dustbins and people should not misuse drains to prevent flash floods.

He told the media during his visit at the cleaning of drains from Singjamei to Kakwa along the national highway.

Khemchand said one of the most important factors for blockage of drains is due to disposal of solid waste on the drains and suggested that people should stop disposing of solid waste to drains immediately.

Many households use to pile construction materials and with the coming of rain the construction materials cause blockage of drainage systems which is the reason people at the surrounding areas of Kakwa face artificial flash floods frequently, he added.

During his visit many plastic bottles, cement bags were found embedded in the drain.

Cleaning of drains has been continuing since Monday by Imphal Municipal Corporation.
