State force, villager volunteers intercepted at Golthol road

A combined team of state force and village volunteers, who approached Golthol road near Thangjing Hills on Saturday to tackle armed Kuki militants, were intercepted by Kumaon Regiment.

A combined team of state force and village volunteers, who approached Golthol road near Thangjing Hills on Saturday afternoon to tackle armed Kuki militants, were intercepted by Kumaon Regiment.

According to sources, the combined team was reportedly stopped by the regiment on the grounds that there were multiple deaths and injuries on the militants’ side and further assured them that there will be no firings from the militants.

Around four-five ambulance vehicles were seen dispatched at the area suspected to be the militants’ hideout. There were also appeals to send more ambulance vehicles, sources added.

It is suspected that the militants’ side might have suffered heavy casualties in the shootout.

Meanwhile, around 1,000 suspected armed Kuki militants from Churachandpur have reportedly marched towards Torbung amidst the gunbattle at Kwakta Lamkhai Ward No 8 area, reports said.

BSF personnel deployed at the area are on high alert, on the lookout for the militants attempting to sneak in.
