Stakeholders meet to revive tourism in Manipur

During the interactive sessions, a revival plan for increasing tourist inflow and enhancing the image of Manipur as a tourist destination were discussed, a release stated.

In a coordinated effort to revive tourism in Manipur, India Tourism Imphal, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, organised two meetings with travel trade and hospitality stakeholders.

The first meeting took place on May 2, 2024, at Classic Grande, Imphal, followed by another session on May 5, 2024, at Sendra Park & Resorts, Loktak. Both meetings were chaired by Anil Oraw, Deputy Director General & Regional Director (North Eastern), Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, and attended by Ibohal Singh, Director of the Department of Tourism, Government of Manipur.

In a press release on Monday, assistant director of India Tourism said that during the interactive sessions, a revival plan for increasing tourist inflow and enhancing the image of Manipur as a tourist destination were discussed. Oraw informed and assured full support of the Ministry of Tourism, Gol, in terms of confidence and image building social media campaign exclusively for Manipur promoting Imphal, Loktak area; hosting of tour operators & bloggers educational trip; special workshop for enlisting of Loktak home stay under Incredible India Home stay; interstate FAM trip for tour operators, production of ebrochures and various promotional measures, it said.

It said that RD North East emphasises inviting the stakeholders to take part in forthcoming International Travel Mart dedicated to North East to be held in November 2024 and showcase Manipur. Tour operators, media attending ITM’2024 from all across India and overseas would also be invited for a post ITM FAM trip in Manipur (Imphal - Loktak circuit), it added.

Director Tourism Manipur also agreed with the Regional Director and assured full support of the Department of Tourism Manipur. Ibohal also informed that Government of Manipur is aggressively planning to enlist all home stay bed and breakfast establishments for future consideration of all kinds of support and promotion, it mentioned.

The meetings were attended by representatives and President of Manipur Tour Operator Association, Manipur Tourism Forum, Loktak Tourism Development Cooperative Society, State Chapter President IATO, Cooperate Manager, Classic Group of Hotels and others.

More than 60 Tourism Stakeholders including Tour Operators, Hoteliers, HomeStay Owners, Tour Guide attended meetings. The Regional Director North East announced a big Tourism & Environment awareness programme at Loktak on 5th June 2024 in celebration of World Environment Day.
