Members of the Schedule Tribe Demand Committee Manipur (STDCM) stormed the residence of MAHUD Minister Y Khemchand at Singjamei Yumnam Leikai, Imphal West on Tuesday, as a mark of protest, demanding schedule tribe status for meetei/meitei community.
STDCM women wing convenor RK Tharaksana told the media on the sidelines of the protest that STDCM appreciates minister Khemchand for accepting their memorandum. It will be considered that the minister is also supporting the movement of STDCM, she said.

Khemchand told the media that demanding a scheduled tribe status for Manipuri Meitei is reasonable, and it is a question of survival for the Meitei community.
“All the cabinet ministers, MLAs, chief minister are interested in the said demand. It is only a matter of time,” he said.
STDCM youth wing convenor Nameirakpam Edison Meitei told the media that STDCM has been demonstrating various forms of agitations, including submission of memorandum to ministers and MLAs.
He said that the STDCM will take the movement as a positive step towards its goal. The committee will be continuing various forms of agitation as a part of the movement till the demand is fulfilled.
