SSUM vows to protect Meetei land amid unrest

Socialist Students' Union of Manipur president S Yaima has asserted that no one would be allowed to encroach upon Meetei territory.

In a resolute stand against threats to the land of Meeteis and the integrity of Manipur, Socialist Students' Union of Manipur (SSUM) president S Yaima on Friday asserted that no one would be allowed to encroach upon Meetei territory. 

Speaking during the launching of the half-month observance of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot's birth anniversary at the memorial site of Irabot at Leimaram in Bishnupur, Yaima on behalf of SSUM vowed to face all consequences and facilitate the resettlement of displaced Meetei in their original lands.

The president expressed deep concern over anti-social elements threatening the Meetei populace by burning their houses and displacing them from various regions within Manipur. 

He said, SSUM takes such threats seriously and is fully prepared to confront these anti-social elements. He further appealed to all concerned parties to ensure that the ongoing unrest does not disrupt educational activities.

He however stated that if situation arise, the student community should actively participate in the movement to safeguard Manipur's integrity and stressed the importance of understanding the efforts undertaken by Irabot to preserve Manipur's unity.

During the commemoration event, attendees from Leimaram and SSUM volunteers paid their respects to Irabot by offering floral tributes at his memorial site. 

SSUM also extended monetary aid to village volunteers who are guarding their villages against anti-social elements through the Leimaram Yaipha Lamgjing Lup.
