The village authority notification said that according to Kuki customs and traditions, no land is to be disposed or sold without the consent of the village chief, and if any transaction of even a piece of land has been enacted without the knowledge of the village chief (Hausa), it will be taken as against customs and tradition of the Kuki, which will invite socio-economic sanctions and the like on the culprits from the clan leaders and villager.

As a matter of fact, even if there is any known land sale deed or such agreements about land belonging to Changoubung village, the same will not be recognised by the people of Changoubung and the village authority, it added.

Therefore, if any land is even sold to a particular buyer, there should be no construction/erection of any kind of infrastructure or practice of cultivation on that plot of land as it infringed on the traditional rights and privileges of the people of Changoubung Village, it further stated.

The South Changoubung Village Authority also stated that the information is being issued for mutual understanding with the neighbouring villages to prevent any untoward misunderstanding and finally to maintain peaceful co-existence.

It continued to state that any such case of an outsider intending to purchase/acquire land from Changoubung village without the consent of the Chief of the village and the Village Authority shall not be entertained at any cost, rather it will be considered as a challenge to our traditional right and such cases will not be recognised or acknowledged for anyone.
