Smuggler apprehended with gold biscuits worth Rs 1.33 crore

The apprehended smuggler along with seized gold biscuits has been handed over to Customs department, Moreh.

Tengnoupal Battalion of Assam Rifles apprehended a gold smuggler with 16 gold biscuits at Permanent Vehicle Check Post, Khudengthabi on Wednesday, IGAR (South) stated in a release.

During routine checking at the check post, a suspicious individual travelling on a two-wheeler was stopped. On thorough checking of the two-wheeler, 16 concealed gold biscuits weighing 2.66 Kg estimated to be worth Rs 1.33 crore were found concealed in the vehicle, it stated

The release from IGAR (South) further stated that HQ Churachandpur Sector Assam Rifles donated blood to a cancer patient at Sielmat Christian Hospital, Churachandpur on Tuesday.

The 37-year old male who is suffering from Myelofibrosis, a rare type of Blood Cancer, is admitted at Sielmat Christian Hospital, Churachandpur. And the hospital had approached HQ Churachandpur Sector Assam Rifles for the urgent requirement of rare blood group to stabilise the condition of the patient in order to refer him to AIIMS, Delhi for Bone Marrow transplantation, it stated

Two officers of HQ Churachandpur Sector Assam Rifles were found to be of required blood match and voluntarily donated the blood, IGAR (South) added.
