Six cops injured as riot breaks out between two groups, 19 arrested

Police arrested as many as 19 persons allegedly involved in the riots that broke out between two groups at Dingku road at around 10.30 pm on Monday.

A clash broke out between two groups at Dingku road at around 10.30 pm on Monday leaving at least six police personnel injured. Police arrested as many as 19 persons allegedly involved in the riots, sources said.
Police said the two groups were engaged in a group fight at Dingku road near ISBT.

To control the situation a team from Imphal Police station rushed to the spot, however, unable to control the situation. To control the mob, police fired tear gas shells and mocked bombs. However, the mob pelted stones at the police personnel injuring six cops. The situation was later put under control.

Officer-in-charge, Imphal police station, N Ingocha said the injured police personnel are undergoing treatment at Raj Medicity.

He appealed to the people not to create communal tension among communities.

A case has been registered at Imphal Police Station in connection with the incident. The arrested persons were remanded for four days of police custody after they were produced in front of their respective courts for further investigation.
