Six candidates file nominations for Manipur Assembly Elections 2022

Three NPP candidates, two BJP candidates and one candidate from the Janata Dal-United filed their nominations on Thursday.

Six candidates of different political parties, including three candidates of the National People Party (NPP), two Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidates and one candidate from the Janata Dal (United) filed their nominations for the first phase of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election on Thursday.

Manipur Assembly speaker Yumnam Khemchand Singh of the BJP on Thursday filed his nomination papers from Singjamei assembly constituency. He filed three nomination papers supported by three proposers each, at the office of the returning officer, Singjamei assembly constituency Pangambam Yaitongba.

The third day of filing of nominations in respect of the first phase of polling also witnessed four other candidates, including former minister Karam Shyam, filing their nomination papers in Imphal West district.

Former minister and BJP candidate Karam Shyam filed his nomination from Langthabal assembly constituency. He had served as a cabinet minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution in the earlier part of the present BJP-led government. The nomination was filed at the office of the returning officer, Langthabal assembly constituency Scindia Laipubam, with support from one proposer.

National People Party (NPP) candidate Konthoujam Sharat Singh also filed his nominations from Konthoujam assembly constituency at the office of the returning officer, Konthoujam assembly constituency Samson Huidrom. Sharat filed three nomination papers supported by three proposers each. Sharat had won the Konthoujam assembly seat in 2012 from an AITC ticket.

NPP candidate Khuraijam Loken Singh filed his nomination from Wangoi assembly constituency at the office of the returning officer Wangoi assembly constituency H Sukumar Singh. Khuraijam Loken’s three nomination papers were supported by three proposers each.

Another NPP candidate Ayangbam Oken Singh also filed from Sekmai (SC) assembly constituency on Thursday supported by one proposer, at the office of the returning officer, Sekmai (SC) assembly constituency Padmati Salam.

It may be mentioned that JD (U) candidate Khwairakpam Devendro Singh, son of (L) Khwairakpam Jatra Singh of Awang Sekmai Makha Leikai had filed his nomination from Sekmai (SC) assembly constituency on January 2.

Altogether, six candidates, including three NPP candidates, two BJP and one Janata Dal (United) candidate have filed their nomination so far on the third day of nomination.

Nomination papers will be received till February 8 and scrutiny of nomination papers will be taken up on February 9, while the last date for withdrawal of candidature is February 11.
