Sit-in protest held against hit and run case in Imphal West

Demanding that the culprit(s) involved in a hit-and-run case of a couple during the intervening night of April 14 and 15 near Lamboi Khonangkhong Mela Ground in Imphal West surrender, locals of Lamboi Khongnagkhong on Thursday staged a sit-in protest at the locality.

As per the report, the duo was hit by an unknown four-wheeler from the back while they were returning in a two-wheeler after watching the late night Shumang Leela show. A hit-and-run case was registered at the Lamphel police station in this regard, however, the culprit(s) is/are still at large.

The husband, identified as Namram Novin (56), is still in coma, undergoing treatment at the ICU of Raj Medicity, while the wife, identified as Namram Ongbi Lata, was discharged from RIMS after getting treatment, the next day after the accident.

“We don’t want any sort of revenge. Please come out and help us in the treatment on humanitarian grounds,” said Lata to the culprit(s) while speaking to the media during the protest.

A JAC was also formed in connection with the incident. The convenor of the JAC, Laishram Thoithoi, while speaking to the media, cautioned of different forms of protest if the police failed to nab the culprits and make them compensate for the treatment.
