Womenfolk of Pourabi in Imphal East on Tuesday carried out a protest demonstration condemning Assam Rifles’ legal notice against RPI (Athawale) national secretary Maheshwar Thounaojam.
The sit-in was organised by Pourabi Lamjing Nupi Marup Pourabi at Pourabi Lainingthou Puthiba Community Hall. Protesters also demanded the removal of Assam Rifles from Manipur.
Taking part in the protest, Pourabi Lamjing Nupi Marup Pourabi, secretary Irom Inao decried the unabated terror attacks carried out by kuki militants against the civilians, causing death and injuries, despite the Central and state governments claim that violence has reduced.
She asserted that the people are worried as the end of this conflict is nowhere near in sight. Many elderly, womenfolk and children are facing untold sufferings in the relief camps, she said.
She also expressed discontentment for prolonging the issue rather than making concrete resolutions to solve it. Inao reiterated Pourabi Lamjing Nupi Marup’s demand for withdrawal of the legal notice by Assam Rifles against Maheshwar at the earliest, else warned that they will launch intense agitations.
Protesters also displayed various placards and chanted many slogans during the sit-in.
