Shija Hospitals along with IAP, PAM observe ORS week

Shija Hospitals & Research Institute Private Limited (SHRI) in collaboration with the Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) and the Pediatrics Association of Manipur (PAM) observed ORS week at Shija Auditorium on Friday.

The event celebrated on the theme ‘Diarrhoea Iti roktham, safai our ORS se ralchen apna dhyan’ was held as part of the ongoing ORS Week observed from July 25 to July 31, stated a release. It also said that PAM has been organising ORS week with a unique theme every year.

CMD of Shija Hospitals, Dr Palin Khundongbam; principal of Shija Academy, Babita Ch; director, College of General Practitioner, IMA, Manipur, Dr Shyamkumar Laishram; HOD of Paediatrics, Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Professor N Kameshore and PAM secretary, Dr L Basanta were present at the programme, it noted.

Speaking at the event, CMD of Shija Hospitals, Dr Palin Khundongbam underscored the link between dehydration and mortality, it said. He also highlighted that Smile Train adheres to WHO guidelines by refraining from scheduling surgeries after 2 pm to minimize the risk of dehydration-related mortality, it stated.

Giving the keynote address, Consultant Pediatrician, Shija Hospital, Dr Kh Sachikumar, emphasized the importance of cleanliness and use of ORS in preventing and managing diarrhea, it mentioned. Also speaking, Dr L Shyamkumar and Dr Kameshore gave valuable insights on how proper hygiene and timely ORS administration can significantly reduce the incidence and severity of diarrhea, it maintained.

While, Ch Babita encouraged the audience to spread awareness widely, it stated. And Dr L Basanta urged students to strive to become better healthcare providers, it said.

Over 100 participants were present at the event including students and faculty members from Shija Academy, nurses and support staff from Shija and volunteers and members of PAM, it mentioned.ORS Week is being organised in various hospitals across Imphal, with different experts and themes every year, it added.
