Shija Eye Care Foundation (SECF), a unit of Shija Foundation, has been awarded "Shri G D Agarwal Gomabai Netralaya Award 2023" by Vision 2020: The Right to Sight-India, on Saturday for sustainable community eye health approaches towards integrated people-centered eye care (IPEC) for the year 2023.
The award was presented to Dr Palin Khundongbam, CMD, Shija Hospitals and Research Institute Pvt Ltd, and Dr Sachindra Laishram, Consultant-Ophthalmologist and Head of the Department of Shija EyeCare Foundation, at the inaugural ceremony of the 17th Annual Conference held at Gomabai Netralaya, Madhya Pradesh.
According to a press release by Santosh Shekhar, DGM – Business Development & Operation for Shija, this award consists of a citation and a cheque amount of Rs 1,00,000/- which recognizes SECF’s unwavering commitment to delivering exceptional eye care services and its significant contributions to the field of ophthalmology.
Dr Sachindra Laishram expressed his gratitude, emphasizing that this award is a validation of the team’s relentless commitment to delivering exceptional eye care services in the region and hold the recognition from Vision 2020: The Right to Sight–India in deep regard, considering it a profound honour, the release said.
GD Agarwal Gomabai Netralaya Award is an annual recognition, honouring outstanding dedication, innovation, and excellence in the field of eye care. SECF has consistently upheld exceptional standards of eye care, offering hope to individuals with vision impairments and is the exclusive centre in the state for corneal transplants and vitreoretinal surgeries, using the latest Constellation set up from Alcon – USA.
It is also the only centre in the state to perform squint surgery. SECF’s services extend beyond Manipur and cover the states of Nagaland, Mizoram, Assam, and Myanmar, where they have performed 179 free cataract surgeries as part of Shija Mission Myanmar II, the release said.
