Seven food products by relief camp inmates launched

Inmates of relief camp in Kaching district of violence-hit Manipur produced seven food products under the name ‘Leibaklei Foods’.

KAKCHING: A three-day food processing training programme concluded on Thursday with the launching of seven food products by SDO, Kakching, Okram Sandhyarani Devi.

The training programme was organised by the District Skill Committee (DSC) Kakching in collaboration with Meira Foods at Kalyan Ashram Relief Camp, Kakching.

The seven food products under the name ‘Leibaklei Foods’ were made by the inmates of the relief camp who received a three-day training on food processing.

The seven food products comprises umorok achaar (King chilli pickle), chak hao chempak angouba (fried flat rice), lemon pickle, ready to serve lemon juice, khatta nimkee salted, sweet nimkee and mango pickle.

SDO, Kakching highlighted the importance of imparting skills and how it would help the inmates in sustaining their livelihood and encouraged the inmates to manufacture more products in the future and become self-sufficient. 

The SDO further expressed her happiness over the successful completion of the training programme and the launching of the food products.

The coordinator of the programme, Irom Abesana Devi (MGNF- Kakching), also expressed her gratitude to Meira Foods for rendering such valuable service during this trying time and motivated the women inmates to further carry on with the venture and expand their business.

The trainers from the Meira Food Products, Naorem Tombisana and Sandhyarani Huiningsumbam also expressed their heartfelt delight on the successful completion of the programme.

Altogether, 22 women inmates of Kalyan Ashram Relief Camp have availed the training.

A similar training programme for inmates of Yumbimacha High School Relief Camp, Kakching was also conducted successfully with the launching of six food products manufactured by the inmates on August 18. (DIO)
