Self-determination is the only solution to overcome drug addiction, while rehabilitation centres provides guidance and support to help quit all forms of substance abuse, Committee of Civil Societies Kangleipak (CCSK) president Jeetendra Ningomba said on Thursday.

Speaking during the observance of the third foundation day of Yaipokpa Rehabilitation and Child Care Centre at its campus in Kwakeithel, Imphal West, Jeetendra said that sharing border with Myanmar might be one of the main reasons for drugs being easily available in Manipur.

Urging drug users to quit the addiction, he said that what one needs is the spirit of self-determination.

Pointing out that rehabilitation centres are ashrams to free the abusers from addiction, he appealed to the armed revolutionary groups of Manipur to refrain from making monetary demands on rehabilitation centres.

Managing director of Yaipokpa, Lakhikumar Soram, stated that the rehab centre was established with the objective of fighting the issue of drug menace in the state.

In the last three years, the rehab has been able to bring as many as 60 drug users to the mainstream, he informed, seeking the support of the people of Manipur to successfully overcome the issue of drug menace in the state.
