One AR personnel lodged at 9-Sector in Keithelmanbi under Patsoi Police Station in Imphal West died after reportedly shooting himself with his service AK Assault Rifle around 3.55 am Monday, sources said.
Police said the incident took place at the Viewpoint Halipad Ground of 9-Sector campus. The deceased AR personnel has been identified as one B Sani, 38 from Rakumai Taphou Village in Senapati district.
Patsoi police station has registered a case in connection with the incident. After the crime scene was investigated by a team of State Forensic Science Laboratory, a post mortem of the body has been conducted at RIMS Mortuary.
The post-mortem examination was carried out with a video coverage in the presence of an executive magistrate. After the post-mortem examination, the body has been taken to his home for performance of its last rites, according to the police.
Meanwhile, the family of the deceased cried foul over the incident. Mentioning that three bullets went through B Sani’s belly as per the post mortem, they raised suspicion that someone else might have shot him dead.
At present, the body has been transferred from RIMS mortuary to 16AR Keithelmanbi. Sources said that the body will be further taken to Senapati after giving salutations. However, it remains unsure whether the body will be received by the family members, sources said.
