Security forces foil smuggling of wildlife products in Manipur

During an operation launched in Khudengthabi, Tengnoupal district, Manipur to prevent smuggling of contraband items, 5.190 kg of Pangolin shells were recovered, AR said.

Tengnoupal Battalion under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) foiled a cross-border smuggling of Pangolin Shells at Khudengthabi village, Tengnoupal on Tuesday, stated a release issued by IGAR (South).

Based on specific Input, a team was launched in Village Khudengthabi to prevent smuggling of contraband items, it stated. During the Operation, 5.190 kg of Pangolin Shells were recovered, it stated, adding, the seized wildlife products were assessed to be worth Rs 5.19 lakh. The recovered wildlife products were handed over to the Forest department, Moreh for further investigation, it added.

Meanwhile, Shangshak Battalion under the aegis of Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) foiled Timber Smuggling  in general area Gamnuom village of Kamjong District on Wednesday, it stated. 

The Assam Rifles troops intercepted one Shaktiman truck loaded with illegal timber in general area Gamnuom village,  evaluated to be worth Rs 1.28 crore, it mentioned. The seized timber along with apprehended smugglers and vehicles were handed over to the Forest department, Kamjong for further legal actions, it added.
