Amid the continuing violence in Manipur, the Shangshak Battalion of 10 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) foiled smuggling of contraband items near Phungyar, Shangshak village in Ukhrul District on Sunday.

According to a release by IGAR (S), the Assam Rifles troops intercepted four Kundagadi (Shaktiman) vehicles with eight individuals and loaded with Betel Nuts (Supari).

A total of 22.38 tons of Betel Nuts (Supari) worth Rs 67.14 lakh were seized. The seized Betel Nuts (Supari) along with apprehended smugglers and vehicles were handed over to Forest Beat Office, Finch Corner for further legal action, the IGAR(S) said.
