At least seven people were detained during a cordon and search operation conducted in Imphal area on Thursday by a team of Imphal West district commando as a part of security measures ahead of Independence Day celebration in the state on August 15.

Police said the search operation was conducted at Pratap talkies opposite Paona Bazaar roadside covering Fashion Point area, Polo Ground and Kristina Hotel area from 5 pm to 5.30 pm.
During the search operation, around 157 individuals were verified. Among them, seven persons who failed to produce identification certificate were detained and handed over to city police station for further verification, police added.
