Second round training of polling personnel begins in Imphal West

The second round training of all Polling Personnel for Imphal West commenced on Wednesday at eight different training centres in connection with the ensuing General Elections to the 18th Lok Sabha.

The second round training of all Polling Personnel for Imphal West commenced on Wednesday at eight different training centres in connection with the ensuing General Elections to the 18th Lok Sabha.

The training was conducted at DM College of Teacher Education (Northern and Southern Hall); DM College of Commerce - central hall; NG College – central hall; Government Polytechnic Takyelpat – centenary hall; Imphal College – auditorium hall; Institute of Cooperative Management (ICM), Lamphelpat and GP Women’s College – central hall.

During the training, the responsibilities of each Polling Personnel were outlined, including familiarising with election equipment, understanding the process of submitting periodic reports, preventing fraudulent activities (such as casting multiple votes), and emphasising the importance of using indelible ink, among others.

The trainings were given to the personnel by SDC Lilong Chajing Langthabal Ayam Suraj Singh; AERO Naoriya Pakhanglakpa Aribam Devkishower Sharma; SDC Central-I Yumnam Dhanendra Singh; ARO 12 Keishamthong, 13 Singjamei Salam Padmapati; ARO 16 Sekmai, 17 Lamsang Madan Gopal Laishram; SDC/BO Imphal West Moirangthem Ranjita Devi  among others.

The authorities emphasised the importance of attending training sessions diligently to ensure the smooth conduct of the upcoming 18th Lok Sabha Election 2024. Polling officials must adhere to rules and regulations while performing their duties; should maintain vigilance and stay connected with the returning officer, assistant returning officers, booth level officers , and other relevant officials for any election-related queries or issues.

Meanwhile officials drafted for polling duty in Pherzawl district underwent the second round of training at Churachandpur Govt College on Wednesday.

Around 260 polling personnel, including the reserved pool, to be deployed as Presiding Officers and Polling Officers in the two assembly segments of the district attended the training.

Divided into shifts, the morning shift was conducted for officials drafted in for poll duty within Tipaimukh assembly constituency while the evening shift was devoted to polling officials for Thanlon assembly constituency.

During the training, the master trainers emphasised on statutory and non-statutory form filling exercises, conduct of Mock Poll, efficient handling of EVM/VVPAT machines and revision of theoretical aspects of the previous training.

In addition to distribution of election Handbooks, Help Desks were also set up at the training venue to facilitate the trainees’ requirements and queries.

While inspecting the training, the district election officer of Pherzawl Asish Das reiterated that successful conduct of polling heavily relied upon the competence of polling officials. He instructed the polling officials to pay attention to detail so that nothing impedes the smooth conduct of polls.
