Search for nine-year-old in Thoubal River underway

The victim fell into Thoubak River while trying to get his slipper which fell in the river while washing his feet.

The search and rescue mission of a nine-year-old boy who fell in the Thoubal River on Sunday by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team and local residents is underway.

The victim is identified as Laishram Wangthoi, son of Kington of Thoubal Kiyam Siphai Heibong Leikai and he fell into the river at around 3 pm.

As per sources, Wangthoi with three of his friends went to the river to wash their feet and he fell while trying to get his slipper which fell in the river while washing his feet.

Wangthoi raised his hand as a sign to his friends that he was drowning and wanted to be saved but his friends panicked and ignored his sign and went back home without informing the elders, sources said.

They only informed about his drowning when they were inquired by the elders about their missing friend as it was starting to get darker.

Till the filing of this report, the search was underway.
