Transgender Santa Khurai's book titled 'The Yellow Sparrow', which delves into the issues of transgenders community in Manipur, was released at Ukiyo Bookstore, Imphal on Sunday.
The release function was jointly organised by Ukiyo Bookstore and Speaking Tiger Books.
Speaking on the occasion, writer Santa Khurai highlighted the preconceived stereotypical notion surrounding transgender community in Manipur.
"The general population think of transgender as cross dressers but that is not so. It is an identity just like any other which people adhere to," she said.
She maintained that the book highlighted the numerous plights and issues surrounding the transgender community in Manipur.
I believe the book will be useful to those researching transgenderism, she added.
She exuded confidence that the book would also aid in rectifying the stereotypical biases adjoined with the transgender community in the state.
She further exhorted the transgender community in Manipur to vocalize their personal experiences to help others in understanding their perspective.
