Ukhrul assembly constituency MLA Ram Muivah on Tuesday inaugurated a community managed sanitary complex in Ukhrul on Tuesday.
The complex was inaugurated in the presence of ADC chief Ukhrul Dr Yaronsho Ngalung, CEO of ADC Ukhrul David Kashungnao, executive engineer PHED Ukhrul Themreishang Marei.
At the occasion, MLA Ram Muivah, who is also the chairman of the sub-committee of entertainment and reception of the 4th state level Shirui Lily festival, said that public toilets are a basic necessity and this must be made available to the public by ensuring uninterrupted water supply.
Ram also lauded PM Modi’s ‘Swach Bharat Abhiyan’ mission. He also called for strengthening ADC-run primary schools, asserting that they are the foundation of a child's education.
ADC is a grassroot based governance system and must be strengthened, he said while mentioning that of the 947 sanctioned posts, 181 staff are found missing in ADC run institutes.
Yaronsho Ngalung said that the toilet was solely constructed for the populace of the district headquarter as there is shortage of toilets for the general public.
“The ADC made this inauguration on the eve of the 4th state level Shirui Lily festival,” he said.
The public sanitary project was constructed under the 15th finance commission 2020-21 by the Autonomous District Council, Ukhrul, he further said. As there is limited public oriented toilet in the heart of the Ukhrul town, ADC Ukhrul, ex-councillors, CEO of ADC felt the urgent need to set up a sanitary complex, he mentioned.
The construction was done by PHED Ukhrul under the supervision of executive engineer PHED Ukhrul Themreishang Marei.
“Close to the sanitary complex, we have also constructed a water tank to ensure that public toilets have easy access to water so that hygiene and civic sense is maintained by the users,” Yaronsho said. The public toilet will be managed by the ADC Ukhrul, he added.
He also thanked MLA Ram for inaugurating the complex. The programme was attended by Agriculture officer Ukhrul Kahaosan, ADC staff, among others.
