As many as 10 Sandang (Mithun) are reported death in Kharou Khunou village in the last few months owing to an unknown disease.
Following the unexpected and mysterious death Sandang (Mithun), the Sandang farmers of the village are in fear that the unknown disease may be spread in the neighbouring villages if the disease is not taken care of by the authority concerned.
Regarding the mysterious deaths of Sandang in the village, Apunba Imagi Machasing (AIMS), Manipur wrote a letter to the head of department of Animal Sciences, CAU, Imphal and to the minister of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, drawing the attention to protect the Sandang of Manipur.
The letter stated that the population of Sandang is reducing day by day and it is high time for mass vaccination of Sandang in Manipur particularly in Kharou Khunou village and Machi village.
Speaking to the media, chairman of Machi village, Routhang said that it has been six days since Sandang started dying daily (one or two each day) in the village.
Saying that the veterinary department has assured to visit the village for investigating the disease following a request made by the villagers, he contended that the department has not visited the village till date. He also said that vaccination of animals is lagging behind in the village
