Manipuri Association of Canada (MAC) on Tuesday celebrated Khongjom Day and Sajibu Cheiraoba, with a one-minute silent tribute to the martyrs of the Anglo-Manipur war -1891, followed by Cheiraoba feast, Thabal chongba and other cultural programmes.
In a release, MAC stated that the event commenced with an opening song titled ‘Manipur Koubi Emani’ followed by a one-minute silent tribute to the martyrs of the Anglo-Manipur war of 1891.
Speaking on the occasion, Nilkumar Naorem talked on the importance of the observation of the Meitei Cheiraoba and ‘Khongjom day’, it added.
It continued that the event with Cheiraoba feast, Thabal chongba, Housie (tambola), Kids talent show along with other cultural programmes and festivities, was attended by the Manipuri families in Toronto who donned the traditional Manipur attires.
“Gifts were presented by ‘Ningols’ to ‘Pibas’ and sought blessings from ‘Pibas’,” it added.
