The Sagolband Constituency Progressive Committee on Tuesday expressed concerns over a notice reportedly issued to Sagolband MLA RK Imo by the Union Home Ministry.
The notice allegedly pertains to the MLA raising issues such as drone bombings and improvised rocket attacks on Meitei villages, as well as a mob attack on his residence, which committee member RK Ramananda suggested could be politically motivated.
Speaking at a press conference held at the community hall of Sagolband Bijoy Govindajee Temple in Imphal West, Ramananda detailed the events following the discovery of six individuals including three women, two minors, and an eight-month-old infant whose deaths have escalated tensions across the state.
He stated that on Saturday, an irate mob stormed and vandalized the residences of various MLAs and ministers, including RK Imo.
“An irate mob came to visit MLA RK Imo. We informed them that he was not at his residence but had gone to a meeting at the Chief Minister’s residence. One member of the mob even spoke to the MLA on the phone, and he assured them that he would return in 30 minutes, requesting them to wait,” Ramananda said.
Despite the MLA’s assurances, a section of the mob allegedly began vandalizing the property, setting it on fire, and looting various items from the residence. Ramananda questioned the true motive behind the mob’s actions that day, suggesting there could be an agenda beyond expressing grievances.
On the issue of RK Imo’s potential resignation, Ramananda clarified that the MLA cannot step down without the consent of the people of the Sagolband constituency.
The press conference underscored the growing unrest in Manipur, calling for clarity on the incidents and the intentions of those involved in escalating the tensions.
