rTMS Machine installed at RIMS; director assures to develop Psychiatry Department

RIMS director H Priyoshakhi Devi pledged to consult the authorities and act on upgrading the Psychiatry ward to a remarkable standard as soon as possible.

A ‘Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) Machine’ was inaugurated on Tuesday at the Department of Psychiatry, RIMS, Imphal by RIMS director, H Priyoshakhi Devi in the presence of medical superintendent N Sanjib Singh, dean of Academic Brogen Singh Akoijam and Dr S Gojendra Singh and former HOD, Lenin of Department of Psychiatry.

During the inaugural, RIMS director H Priyoshakhi Devi said that RIMS became the first government hospital to installed rTMS Machine in the northeast region. She acknowledged the department of Psychiatry for their impeccable services despite having less faculty members. She further pledged to consult the authorities and act on upgrading the Psychiatry ward to a remarkable standard as soon as possible.

She also assured of modifying or developing the department into a well-equipped department.

Dr Gojendra Singh also claimed RIMS to be the first government hospital to install an rTMS Machine in the entire North East India. He spoke about the benefits of using an rTMS machine and assured that the newly installed machine will aid in the treatment of patients suffering from depression, stroke, OCD, insomnia and other mental conditions.

He also mentioned the cost of rTMS treatment per session in a private institution to be ranging from Rs 5000-Rs 6000. However, he affirmed that RIMS is considering providing the service for a relatively lower amount or for free to the general public.

Former HOD, Dr RK Lenin, thanked the authorities for hearing the department’s plea and successfully installing the rTMS machine, stating it shall help in more effective treatments to patients as well as in research purposes to the students.

He also addressed the need for infrastructure development of the Psychiatry ward.
