RPF/PLA cadres arrested with arms and ammunition in Imphal West

The arrested persons have been identified as Thoudam Bisharup Meitei, 39, of Senjam Chirang Mayai Leikai, Imphal West and Usham Sarat Singh, 47, of Senjam Khunou, Imphal West.

A team of special commando unit, Khabeisoi, Imphal arrested two cadres of proscribed underground outfit RPF/PLA from Senjam Chirang Mayai Leikai and Senjam Khunou, Imphal West along with arms and ammunition at around 4.30 am on Wednesday.

The arrested persons have been identified as Thoudam Bisharup Meitei, 39, son of late Th Thoiba Mangang of Senjam Chirang Mayai Leikai, Imphal West and Usham Sarat Singh, 47, son of U Gandha of Senjam Khunou, Imphal West.

Policer reported that as preventive measures taken in connection with the upcoming Independence Day celebration an information was received from 4th Assam Rifles regarding the presence of some suspected persons loitering with an intention to conduct anti-social activities like extortion, kidnapping at the area of Pheidinga Imphal West along with one small arms.

Acting on the information a team of special commando unit, Khabeisoi, led by officer-in-charge, Subedar L Bebekananda Singh along with head-constable, H Omega Meitei under the supervision of superintendent of police, Railway and incharge Special Commando unit, Khabeisoi rushed to the said area and started frisking and checking in the area. The villagers informed the team that the said people moved towards the area of Senjam Chirang. Immediately, the team moved to the area of Senjam Chirang and conducted cordon and search operation of selective houses in the suspected area at Senjam Chirang Mayai Leikai and Senjam Khunou.

During the operation Bisharup and Sarat were detained. On questioning, Sarat revealed that he was a member of proscribed underground outfit KCP and later worked for RPF/PLA as a recruiting agent. He further disclosed that he, along with Bisharup, recruited three persons from Senjam Chirang, Senjam Khunou and Mekola area earlier.

On checking the detainees, one small arm (steel in colour) carried by Th Bisharup Meitei without registration number with 75 live rounds and one magazine along with three mobile phones were found from his possession. Sarat revealed that he is an active cadre of RPF/PLA.

Sarat also disclosed that he joined the outfit in 2000 through one Uchingou, Corporal of RPF and got basic military training at GHQ (Myanmar). He revealed that by using the small arm, he collected money from the general public and businessmen for the banned organisation. At present he is working under the command of one Colonel Dilip Leisemba of Kongba Khunou of the banned organization RPF/PLA.

They were arrested at the spot and handed over to Sekmai police station along with the seizures for further necessary legal action.

Meanwhile, as a preventive measure in connection with the upcoming Independence Day celebration, a CASO was conducted at Sanmati trader area of Thangal bazar, covering Alu Gali, Kasturi crossing and Ema Keithel on the same day by a team of commando, Imphal West district.

The operation was conducted from 4.50 pm to 5.20 pm during which around 185 individuals were verified properly at the said area. During verification 8 persons who failed to produce any identification certificate were picked up and handed over to City police for further verification.
