The proscribed Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF) on Monday extended condolences on the death of Shonggam (Kaka) alias Lokchingwang who passed away after battling with an illness on July 23.
Shonggam, whose real name is Loitongbam Biradhaja, 76, son of Loitongbam Kharajao Meitei and Loitongbam ongbi Meipakpi from Wangoo Ahal Lup Awang Leikai, was given honorary discharge on June 4, 2010, RPF stated in a release issued by assistant secretary, Publicity Bangkim.
RPF extends revolutionary salute to Shonggam, an elderly patriot who sincerely worked for the motherland, it stated.
RPF recalled that Shonggam joined the organisation in 1993. He was 50 when he successfully completed the basic military training of the PLA in April 1996 and was designated with Army No 0997 by the War office, it stated. Although he was already a senior person when he joined the organisation, he worked diligently and carried out all assigned tasks with a youthful vigour and energy, it added.
He had genuine love for Manipur, did not discriminate against anyone in terms of caste and creed, was honest, well-disciplined and a brave soldier who aspired to live independently, RPF stated.
For his relentless and undying efforts to bring forward the self-determination movement till his last breath, a condolence meet was organised at the units, departments, and stations of the RPF, it stated. Lastly, RPF and its military wing PLA also share the loss and grief of the bereaved family, relatives and friends, it added.
