The Rongmei Naga Youths Organization, Manipur (RNYOM) and the Rongmei Naga Students’ Organization Manipur, (RNSOM) have strongly condemned the alleged abduction and beating of Joshua Kamei, a 23-year-old railway driver from Kambiron (Puiluan) village, Noney district, by people who identified themselves as members of the Arambai Tenggol near Keikhu Kabui Khul Gate, Imphal East district, on November 5.
“On November 5, 2024, Arambai Tenggol (AT) extremists abducted Mr. Joshua Kamei, subjecting him to severe torture and interrogation near Keikhu Kabui Khul Gate, Imphal East. This egregious act constitutes a grave human rights violation, imperiling the dignity and safety of Naga people,” the RNYOM said in a statement on Thursday.
The RNYOM demanded that those culprits must be booked and penalised under law of the land within 48 hours with effect from 12 noon of November 7, 2024 to 12 noon of November 9, 2024, “failing which we will resort to democratic forms of agitation including bandh of traffic on the NH-37 and stoppage of all construction works of national projects in our jurisdiction in collaboration with like minded civil society organizations and general public till the demand is fulfilled”.
The RNYOM also demanded the cease of violence immediately, and the “AT extremists” must halt all violent activities.
They also demanded justice for Joshua Kamei at the earliest.
In a separate statement, the Rongmei Naga Students’ Organization Manipur (RNSOM) also demanded similar points put up by the RNYOM.
