RIMS staff convicted under POCSO

The sentence hearing of RIMS staff convicted under POCSO Act has been fixed on July 31.

Special Judge Fast Track Court No 1, S Imocha Singh on Thursday announced the conviction of RIMS lab technician for the offence punishable under Section 6 of the POCSO Act, 2012.

Accused Thokchom Suraj Singh, 36 years, son of Th Kullen of Keishamthong Moirang Ningthou Leikai, Imphal West was charged of raping a minor girl of 13 years old on October 3, 2019, while working as an ECG technician in the RIMS casualty.

He was also charged for sexually assaulting a minor girl and committing an aggravated penetrative sexual assault under section 5 of the POCSO Act, 2012.

The court, after considering all circumstances evidence, opined that the prosecution has successfully established that the victim was a child and the accused was guilty of the offence under Section 5(a) of POCSO Act and punishable under section 6 of POCSO Act, 2012.

The sentence hearing has been fixed on July 31.
