Republic Day 2021: CM Biren calls upon all to discharge fundamental duties

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh greeted the people of the state on the occasion of India's 72nd Republic Day.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren greeted the people of the state on the occasion of Republic Day on Tuesday and called upon all to faithfully discharge fundamental duties.

"Today I join our great Nation in celebrating our #RepublicDay

. On this historic occasion let us rededicate ourselves to faithfully discharge our Fundamental duties as responsible citizens and be proactive partners in nation building, " Biren tweeted along with a video post.

The state celebration of the country’s Republic Day 2021 was held inside the Kangla in Imphal. The chief minister along with Governor Najma Heptulla and other state leaders attended the celebration function.

"Attended the State celebration of #RepublicDay at Imphal inside the Kangla with Hon'ble Governor Dr. @nheptulla ji as the Chief Guest," Biren posted in another tweet.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several national leaders had greeted the nation as India celebrated its 72nd Republic Day on Tuesday. 

"Wishing all the people of India a Happy Republic Day. Jai Hind!" Modi tweeted.

The Republic Day was first observed when the Indian Constitution came into force in 1950.

Earlier, on the eve of the Republic Day, Biren thanked the president in a tweet for the two Padma Shri Awards conferred to Manipur.

"Conferring two #PadmaAwards to a small State of Manipur is indeed a recognition for its contribution for humanity, nation & society. Thank you Hon'ble President, Shri Ram Nath Kovind ji, PM @narendramodi  ji & HM @AmitShah  ji for your acknowledgement & encouragement," the chief minister tweeted.

Padma awards for Rewben Mashangva and Radhe Devi

Rewben Mashangva and Radhe Devi from Manipur have been conferred with Padma awards, which is one of the highest civilian awards of the country, announced the Home Affairs Ministry on Monday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter on Monday to express, “We are proud of all those who have been conferred the Padma awards. India cherishes their contribution to the nation and humanity at large. These exceptional individuals from different walks of life have brought qualitative change in the lives of others.” 

Padma Awards are conferred in three categories, Vibhusan, Padma and Padma Shri. The awards are given in different disciples/ fields of activities such as art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil service etc., stated a release issued by the Ministry.

Padma Shri is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service whereas Padma Bhusan is for distinguished service of highest order and Padma Shri for distinguished service in any field, it stated. The awards are announced on the occasion of Republic Day every year.

The awards are conferred by the President of India at ceremonial functions which are held at Rashtrapati Bhavan usually around March/ April every year.
