The Coordination Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) on Thursday demanded the replacement of Manipur’s current security advisor with someone well-acquainted with the state, in the aftermath of persistent firing and killings by Kuki militants in peripheral regions despite the deployment of security forces.

A delegation from COCOMI, headed by its coordinator Jeetendra Ningomba, visited affected families on Thursday, extending solidarity and condolence to the one who have lost their loved ones and to address the concerns of the missing family members.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the present security advisor, Jeetendra highlighted that despite stringent security measures under the advisor’s supervision, Kuki militant attacks persisted in peripheral regions.

He attributed this failure to the advisor’s lack of regional knowledge and unfamiliarity with the area.

Jeetendra emphasised the necessity for the government to appoint a new security advisor who possesses in depth knowledge of the region and familiarity with the state, stating that it is believed that such a move is crucial to effectively contain the firing and attacks perpetrated by Kuki militants.

The COCOMI delegation also assessed the ongoing situation in the Bishnupur and Kakching districts, which are adjacent to the Churachandpur district to gain a comprehensive understanding of the prevailing issues in these areas.
