The Laipham Khunou Apunba Meira Lup (LKAML) on Thursday called on the legislators of Manipur to pass a resolution in the upcoming Assembly session aimed at removing Assam Rifles (AR) from Manipur.

The organisation alleged that AR’s biased handling of the prolonged unrest in Manipur has significantly impeded efforts to restore peace in the region.

Speaking to the media in Imphal, spokesperson of LKAML, Elangbam Sobita Leima, highlighted several incidents to substantiate their claim.

She pointed out instances where the AR hindered the state forces in their attempt to control the Kuki militants, citing the recent incidents of Jiribam where the AR hindered the state forces in carrying out combing operations in suspected areas after the Kuki militants killed a CRPF Jawan and injured two state force personnel in an ambush.

Such is the genuine proof that the AR biases in the ongoing violence in Manipur by siding with the Kuki militants, she added.

She further highlighted the creation of a trans-border ethnic tension in the peaceful Kamjong district after the AR was deployed in the area and helped the illegal immigrants to settle in the area.

The indigenous of Kamjong are also raising the same voice to remove AR from the area, she informed.
Explaining the crucial need to remove AR from Manipur to restore peace, she also appealed to all the authorities concerned to replace the AR with neutral forces to facilitate lasting peace and harmony in Manipur.
