The Khwairamband Ima Keithel Lukmai Seluk has strongly condemned the assembly session conducted on Tuesday terming it a mockery of the people of Manipur while also expressing regrets over electing such representatives as MLAs.

Asem Nirmala, general secretary of the association, talking to the media on the sideline while coming to submit a memorandum to the Governor near Raj Bhavan main gate, Imphal on Wednesday warned that the MLAs and ministers should not play with sentiments of the people of Manipur.

“The MLAs and ministers should not play with the public. The people strongly condemn the adjourning of the assembly session without discussing a single agenda on the present turmoil”, she said.

Since the beginning of the turmoil many people have died with thousands suffering and hence, the MLAs and ministers should not sideline the issue by holding their chair. They should be ashamed for conducting the session for a mere 11 minutes without discussing a single issue of the present turmoil, she added.

“If the MLAs and ministers failed to control the present issue, then all of them must resign from their respective post immediately. People do not need such irresponsible leaders”, said Nirmala.

“We regret electing such representatives to become an MLA who is to be the voice of the people”, the general secretary of the association said.

The women's organization also condemned the issuance of legal notice to social worker Thaonaojam Maheshwar for raising his voice against the bias act of Assam Rifles in the present turmoil in Manipur. She added that many people have been alleging Assam Rifles for the bias action. Assam Rifles should issue the legal notice to those people who are also raising voice against the bias act of Assam Rifles, Nirmala added.

Amidst the ongoing turmoil in Manipur where even farmers are shot while cultivating in paddy fields, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is commenting on ‘Chandrayaan’ landing on moon and that is not what we want, she said.

“People of Manipur do not want to hear the moon story, instead Modi should save Manipur”, Nirmala added.

With regards to buffer zones, she said that they should be made at ‘no man's land’ and questioned how farmers are going to work in their paddy fields if buffer zones are set up at their paddy fields. What is the intention of the central and state government, she questioned.

If the state government and central government fail to solve the present issue, then the government should bear the consequences if unwanted incidents occur, she cautioned.

She further added that Khwairamband Ima Keithel Lukmai Seluk will be supporting the agitation to be conducted on September 2 against the bias action of Assam Rifles in Manipur.
