The Rongmei Naga Council Manipur - Goinanglong (Oinamlong) Luangrian (Segment) on Friday appealed to both the Meetei/Meitei and Kuki-Zo Communities to refrain from disturbing/interfering the commuters and shoppers from villages of Goinanglong (Oinamlong) Segment, and Rongmeis who are commuting NH-37 for different purposes.
National Highway-37 is the lifeline of all the communities and the Rongmei community in particular, stated a release.
“We all are aware that Tamenglong district is a peace zone, and we appeal to both the two communities that the crisis should not be brought into the Tousem Sub-division, Tamenglong district in whatsoever circumstances. It is our legitimate right to claim peace and harmony within the territory inherited from our ancestors,” it stated.
Rongmei Naga Council Manipur- Goinanglong (Oinamlong) Luangrian zone also requested the government of Manipur, districts administrations and law enforcement agencies of Jiribam and Tamenglong districts to ensure that Rongmeis commuting the NH-37 are free from any unwanted disturbances.
It is the duty of the government and the district administration to ensure that the lives and properties of the commuters are protected and there are no disturbances along the highway, it stated.
Rongmei Naga Council Manipur- Goinanglong (Oinamlong) Luangrian zone further appealed to both the communities to find the path of reconciliation and peace so that normalcy is returned as before in the border areas of Tamenglong and Jiribam districts, and within the Jiribam district in particular.
