Manipur BJP general secretary K Saratkumar on Tuesday said it is unfortunate that the Congress leader Rahul Gandhi stated Manipur as having two states during an election campaign at Mizoram for the upcoming Lok Sabha election.

Saratkumar told the media at the state party head office located at Nityaipat Chuthek that the present government is giving all out efforts to maintain the integrity and unity of Manipur.

However, it is unfortunate that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi who is also leader of 10 like-minded political parties made such an unwarranted statement during Mizoram election campaign for Lok Sabha election.

Regarding his statement, the BJP will consider that the 10 like-minded political parties of the Opposition are extending support in the attempt to disintegrate the territorial boundary of Manipur, he said. Regardless, BJP will continue to protect the territorial boundary and integrity of Manipur, he added.

As a political leader, Rahul Gandhi should not make that statement and other nine political parties which are in alliance with Congress should place their stance on the statement of Rahul Gandhi, he further said.

Saratkumar alleged that the rally organised recently by the Opposition was demonstrated to create tensions in Imphal. He said that the rally was participated by former chief minister O Ibobi Singh and other former ministers and MLAs including former speaker Th Lokeswor.
Although the followers and supporters may not have knowledge of the ‘silent zone’, former CM and other elected representatives could have been aware that the governor was not in Raj Bhavan and holding rallies in the silent zone is highly restricted.

If the rally was taken out only to submit a memorandum, then they could have sent it to Raj Bhavan, he added.

BJP appeals to the people of Manipur to cooperate with one another to bring normalcy back instead of serving some people with vested interests or politicians to disrupt Manipur amid the present turmoil, he said.

He alleged that the 10 political parties are planning to disintegrate Manipur and demanded that they should clarify their stance on the present turmoil.

BJP Manipur Pradesh vice president N Nimbus alleged that Congress party has been dreaming to disintegrate Manipur for years. Taking advantage of the present turmoil, Rahul Gandhi tried to visit Churachandpur by-road in order to gain political mileage, he alleged.

BJP further demanded the 10 like-minded political parties to clarify their stance on the present turmoil of Manipur as well as Rahul Gandhi’s statement that Manipur has been divided into two states.
