The Thoubal District Congress Committee also joined the protest against the Modi government in connection with the conviction of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in a 2019 defamation case by a court in Surat, Gujarat.
Under the aegis of the All India Congress Committee and the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, members of the Thoubal District Block Congress Committee and the State Congress held a press meet at the district block Congress committee office at Thoubal Athokpam condemning the Modi-led government.
Speaking to the media, MLA O Surjakumar condemned the defamation case filed against Rahul Gandhi by a democratic country like India. He said that Congress members will stand by Rahul Gandhi’s movement to save the democracy of the country.
Putting an Opposition leader in jail for two years and disqualifying him from his MP position for a defamation case is an act of dictatorship in a democratic country, said the MLA during the press meet.
Attending the press meet, Lilong INC former candidate Syed Anwar Hussain also condemned the Modi led government for vacating Rahul Gandhi from his official quarter.
MPCC spokesperson Md Rabi Khan also said that he will support every movement of the Manipur Congress Committee to preserve democracy in the country.
