Veteran politician O Joy on Monday called on the Assembly secretariat to inform the public on the progress of 10 MLAs who were served notice for explanation in regards to unethical conduct relating to their demands for a separate administration.

Speaking to the media at Manipur Press Club, O Joy said that after due complaint to the Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly for unethical conduct of the 10 members of Manipur Legislative Assembly under Rule 300 on May 18, the Assembly served them a notice to submit their written personal explanation on or before June 16 to the Assembly secretariat.

However, it has been 24 days since the last date of submission and the matter, being one of the most sensitive issues, is in the public domain and the general public is anxious to know the progress, the veteran politician said.

He said that the Manipur Assembly is the most prestigious one and that in a democracy nothing can be sadder and cause greater concern than the erosion in respect of representatives.

The 10 MLAs, being members of the august house of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly under the oath or affirmation of the constitution of India, demanded a separate administration from Manipur to Amit Shah on May 15, which is an unethical conduct, he said. Their demand created the erosion in respect and image of all members and lowered down the dignity of the august house, Joy added.

Stating that it has been reported in local dailies that notice has been served to the 10 MLAs for explanation, he questioned its progress and if they have given an explanation.
